OVS Connect Academy FAQ
Who is OVS Connect Academy designed for?
OVS Connect Academy is designed for families who are currently homeschooling and are interested in the support, resources, and opportunities available through Onslow Virtual School while maintaining flexibility in their child's education.
What grade levels are available?
OVS Connect Academy offers coursework and learning opportunities for students in grades K–12.
What is asynchronous learning?
Asynchronous learning allows students to access course materials, complete assignments, and interact with teachers on a flexible schedule. Students are not required to be online at a specific time for instruction.
Can students work ahead?
Yes. Students have the flexibility to work at their own pace and may work ahead as they progress through their courses.
Are students required to attend live classes?
No. Students are not required to attend live classes as part of the OVS Connect Academy program.
What curriculum is used?
OVS Connect Academy utilizes EdOptions, a curriculum developed by Edmentum, a nationally recognized provider of online learning solutions.
Will students have access to teachers?
Yes. Students have access to teacher support, including tutoring opportunities that are typically available during evening hours.
Will students earn credits toward graduation?
Yes. High school students earn credits through their coursework that count toward graduation requirements.
Will my student receive a diploma from Onslow Virtual School?
Yes. Students who successfully complete all graduation requirements through Onslow Virtual School will receive an Onslow Virtual School diploma.
Can students participate in school activities and events?
Yes. Students enrolled in OVS Connect Academy are students of Onslow Virtual School and may participate in school activities and events.
Can students participate in athletics?
No. OVS Connect Academy students are not eligible to participate in athletics through their home district school, and Onslow Virtual School does not currently offer athletic programs.
What technology is required?
Students need access to a computer and reliable internet service. Students may also have the opportunity to use an Onslow County Schools-issued laptop.
How are state assessments administered?
North Carolina requires certain assessments to be administered in person. All state-mandated assessments are conducted by OVS staff at designated testing locations.
